Some of our favourite dog walks in the Vale of Glamorgan!

We are very lucky to have some beautiful countryside to enjoy with or without our dogs in Penarth, Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan. If you are looking for ideas of some great dog walking spots in the Vale of Glamorgan you have come to the right place! Please get in touch if you would like your dog to join one of our team on these gorgeous walks.
  • Walk #1 The Coastal Path from Penarth to Sully

  • With gorgeous views across the Bristol Channel, this beautiful walk can be as long or as short as you wish. Headland, Lavernock Point, can be reached although it can get very windy! Parking can be more difficult on more pleasant days.
  • Walk #2 Dinas Powys Woodland (owned by the Woodland Trust)

  • With stunning countryside there are lots of beautiful places to explore on a dog walk around Dinas Powys including the lovely Salmon Leaps Walk. There is a mixture of wooded areas and open fields. If you are lucky you may see some wildlife with kestrals, buzzards and pheasants commonly seen. At some times of year there may be livestock in the fields so please keep dogs on the lead and under close control to keep livestock and dogs safe when our dog walking.
  • Walk #3 Porthkerry Country Park

  • Beautiful footpaths and woodland to explore whilst dog walking in Barry. With a car park on site, this is great dog walk for the warmer summer months when you are trying to avoid hot tarmac and missing the beaches!
  • Walk #4 Watch Tower (or Watch House) Bay

  • A lovely beach walk in Barry. The beach is close to the town so parking is usually quite easy and there are also toilets on site. Dogs are allowed at all times.
  • Walk #5 Cosmeston Lakes and Country Park

  • Can be an extended dog walk to incorporate a countryside and coastal walk. The actual park has two lakes, good footpaths making it a good choice for wheelchairs and pushchairs as well as dog walking. Due to the amount of birdlife around the lakes please keep dogs under close control at all times.
  • Walk #6 Knap Gardens

  • A great place for a dog walk in Barry all year round. Beautiful gardens around a lake visited regularly by birdlife. A good walk for buggies and wheelchairs as well as being popular with dog walkers.
  • Walk #7 Cosmeston Lakes and Country Park

  • Can be an extended dog walk to incorporate a countryside and coastal walk. The actual park has two lakes, good footpaths making it a good choice for wheelchairs and pushchairs as well as dog walking. Due to the amount of birdlife around the lakes please keep dogs under close control at all times.
  • Walk #8 Jacksons Bay

  • This is a quiet secluded sandy beach and the locals best kept secret. It is popular with dog walkers due to allowing dogs on it all year round. You can also walk round the Coastal Path to Barry Island though that does have dog restrictions at certain times of the year.
  • Walk #9 Whitmore Bay (during Winter months only for dogs)

  • A sandy beach in Barry Island. A gorgeous stretch of coastline for your dogs to play and explore. Please note that this beach is part of the Vale of Glamorgan Dog Beach ban so dogs are not allowed on the beach in summer months.
  • Walk #10 Cwm George and Casehill woods

  • Close to Michaelston-Le-Pit, this walking spot is a mixture of wooded areas, meadows and bridleways there is lots of variety for your dogs to explore and sniff.

Responsible Dog Walking

When visiting these beautiful places please remember to be respectful of others who are visiting and the environment. Our Top Tips for responsible dog walking are:-
  • Pick up dog mess in a bag and either take it home or to a dog mess bin.
  • Only let your dog off lead if it can be effectively controlled around people and other dogs.
  • Keep your dog on the lead and under control if livestock are close by.
  • Keep your dog on the lead if there is signage or you are instructed to do so by a park warden.
