Dog Walking in Cowbridge

We are currently looking for a new franchise partner to run our brand new branch of Friends for Pets. For more information please see our Business opportunity pages.

In the meantime here are our top 5 dog walks around Cowbridge

In one of the most beautiful places in the country, we have some stunning choices of locations to walk our dogs. Here are some of our favourites.

1. Llanwit Major Beach

Lovely flat beach walk, plenty of room to run about and quite a few rock pools to nose in. The beach itself is covered in rocks and pebbles.

2. The Knap

This is a very varied walk. Start at the beach - it is very pebbly and steep but the dogs love sniffing around in the rocks for little bits of fish or crab. After that, walk along the coastline up the grassy path to see the view from Watch House Bay.

3. Newton Beach

You can walk from the slip along the sand/pebble beach for about two miles to the river mouth near Ogmore. Then you can come off the beach and return along the grass/sandy path above. Dogs are allowed on this beach throughout the year and it is a very safe and popular spot for off the lead walking.

4. Parc Slip

Parc slip nature reserve itself is an area 300 acres containing a fantastic mix of habitats such as grassland, woodland and wetlands. There is over 10km of footpaths are available for dog walking.

5. Cosmeston Park and Lakes

This is a fab place to go with dogs. There are completely fenced off areas where there's no chance of escape but also woodland walks and a huge lake for the dogs to swim in.

Responsible Dog Walking

When visiting these beautiful places please remember to be respectful of others who are visiting and the environment. Our Top Tips for responsible dog walking are:-
  • Always check local bylaws and if there are any dog restrictions in place. Many beaches, including some of the above, do not allow dogs on the beach during summer months.
  • Pick up dog mess in a bag and either take it home or to a dog mess bin.
  • Only let your dog off lead if it can be effectively controlled around people and other dogs.
  • Keep your dog on the lead and under control if livestock are close by.
  • Keep your dog on the lead if there is signage or you are instructed to do so by a park warden.
